Negronis Gone Wild!
The Negroni might possibly be the most perfect cocktail ever created! Maybe not, but we here are pretty excited about them and it is our favorite. The Italian classic is a perfect blend of equal parts Gin, Sweet Vermouth, and Campari stirred to perfection and poured over rocks then garnished with an orange peel. It is a pretty simple cocktail to make and has a bold flavor that is to be sipped and enjoyed slowly as it packs a boozy punch! One of our favorite things about the Negroni is the fact that the gin can be substituted with your favorite spirit to create an entirely new, yet amazing cocktail. Read on to see some of the variations including my personal twist on the well known libation.
Mystery Mike's Negroni
For this variation, I kept the classic ingredients but added Cointreau and a few drops of aromatic bitters then finish it off with a sprig of rosemary. The orange flavored liqueur adds a nice aroma and sweetness that ties in well with the oils from the rosemary. The botanical nature of the bitters rounds out the flavor. Click here for the recipe.
Boulevadier Cocktail
This Negroni alternative is for the whiskey drinkers. By swapping gin with a bold, Smokey bourbon whiskey you end up with a cocktail with such body and bold flavor. A must try even if you’re not a big whiskey drinker. Click here for the recipe.
Negroni Spagliato
This twist on the classic Negroni is perfect for those that maybe don't care for gin (which may be a crime in some countries) or just want all the goodness with a little "sparkle". The literal translation of Spagliato is mistake but this is definitely not that. Click here for the recipe.
Mezcal Negroni
Taking the Negroni south of the border may have been a good idea as the smokey flavor of mezcal definitely adds a dimension to the already beautifully bodied beverage. This drink is elevated yet fun and just a little bit dangerous. Try at your own risk! Click here for the recipe.
Try it at home!
There are many different variations not shown here including the white Negroni, Old Pal Cocktail, and Americano Cocktail but these are our favorites and I am sure you will enjoy them just as much as we did. Just for fun, try a Negroni tasting with your friends and judge which is your favorite.
