Have you ever heard of coffee steak? Well, it exists and much like the effects of coffee on chocolate, coffee on steak amplifies the flavor! The acidity levels of coffee replicate tannins in red wines to give it intense flavor while also tenderizing the meat. It adds a nice crunchy crust that is full of flavor. YUM! Serves 2-4.Equipment:
spice grinder (if using whole spices)
Ingredients:2 strip steaks 3/4lb - 1lb each2 tbsp ground coffee2 tbsp salt1 tsp garlic powder1tsp onion powder1tsp thyme1 tsp paprika1tsp ground corriander1 tsp pepper1/2 tsp all spice1/2 tsp chili pepperInstructions:
Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl (or grinder if using whole spices). Massage onto steaks evenly on both sides (you can refrigerate for a few hours or overnight if you'd like, it is not necessary as the flavor is intense!). Before cooking steaks, be sure to let it sit outside the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes to get to as close to room temperature as possible.
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil on high until oil becomes viscous. Pan sear each side of the steaks for 2 minutes. Let it sit for 10 minutes before slicing and serving!
Serve with your favorite vegetables! We served ours with steamed carrots and our Summer Succotash.
